Do seeds like sun or shade to germinate or does it not matter.?
You allways get instructions on the packet for depth or distance or is it a case of a sun loving plant the seed will need full sun and vica-verca if it like the shade, thats where you grow the seed's.
It really depends on the plant. Most of the veggies or ornamental you are planting should be sown in strong light. Many seeds CAN sense strong light whether sun or artificial. There are a few, like passion fruit, that need to be germinated in the dark.
